Simon joined Christie’s in 1994; within two years pioneering the company’s Design auctions and evolving foundations for today’s internationalised market. Inaugural auction sales of Italian Art & Design, and of Nordic Art & Design were established, alongside monograph auction projects dedicated to Italian architects Carlo Mollino, and to Ettore Sottsass. Detailed specialist expertise was cultivated through landmark collection sales — the Collection Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé, the important Art Deco collections of Château de Gourdon, and of Steven A. Greenberg, New York, and the Schmidt-Warneke Collection of Venini Glass included. With over three decades of global engagement and innovation, in London, Paris and in New York, Simon's knowledge has contributed to auction world records for examples of 19th, 20th and 21st century design.
Acknowledging his expertise and discretion, Simon has 15 years service on numerous authenticating committees for major international art and design fairs, in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Basel, Miami and Maastricht. A bilingual Anglo-French national, who has lectured widely and written extensively, Simon is based in London.
“When offering a service or expertise, an immaculate training and experience is the ideal. That, combined with honesty, taste, and a searching historical knowledge, makes Simon Andrews a unique and trusted professional.”
